At Automattic I had the opportunity to work on the design and accessibility of the new WordPress block editor (a.k.a. Gutenberg) alongside the open source community, working on features and improvements that made the authoring experience more engaging and accessible for everyone.
The What's New modal
I worked with project managers and the WordPress community and accessibility team to design and develop a What's New modal that lets returning users know about important updates and improvements to the block editor.
We aimed to strike a balance between engagement and density of information and we opted to make the modal relatively small and easily dismissed in order to avoid overwhelming users.
Prototyping the end-to-end flow
In order to get everyone involved on the same page and on board with our solution, I created a guided prototype in Figma that shows the end-to-end flow of this new feature.
